Master Bedroom Design in a Singapore Flat

Wardrobe run, bed wall, the ensuite question and where the aircon has to go.

The wardrobe run decides the room

A master bedroom is usually planned around one long wardrobe wall, because that is the only elevation that can absorb full-height storage without making the room feel narrow. Sliding fronts save the door swing but cost internal depth; hinged fronts give full access but need clear floor in front of them. TO FILL: master bedroom wardrobe per foot run

Bed wall, sockets and the thing people regret

The most common regret in a finished master bedroom is a socket behind the wardrobe or a bedside point that lands under the headboard. Electrical points should be set out against the furniture layout after it is fixed, not against the bare wall.

The ensuite question

Whether the master bathroom is a finish-level refresh or a full strip-out is decided by the waterproofing, not by the tiles. In a newly built BTO flat the decision is made for you: HDB requires owners to wait three years before removing wall or floor finishes in the toilets.

Where the aircon has to go

The fan coil position and its condensate fall determine where a bulkhead is needed, and a bulkhead over the bed head is the one place it is hardest to hide. Plan the aircon route before the ceiling design, not after.

Blackout, not just curtains

In a west-facing unit the heat load matters as much as the light. A curtain track recessed into the false ceiling reads cleaner than a surface track and lets a blackout layer sit tight to the wall, which is what actually stops the light leak.
